PM Promises to Continue Meeting with Factory Workers After Election

KAMPONG CHAM: Prime Minister Hun Sen announced that he will continue meeting with factory workers after July’s election, but will suspend his tour during the approaching campaign season in accordance with Cambodian election law, which forbids those in office from promoting their party during official appearances.

Speaking at a meeting with nearly 20,000 workers in Kampong Cham province on the morning of June 16, the Prime Minister noted that while he had met with many factory workers in the last few weeks, there were still some left to visit. He said, “After these 18 meetings, there are still a few places left for us to meet the workers [which we will do] after the election to form a new government.”

He said that he will have to suspend meeting with the workers before the election campaign because if he arrives to give them gifts and food during campaign season, he will be fined for violating election law. He emphasized that his meetings with the workers are for him to look after their well-being and development.
